Kayak Free Self-Launches in Islamorada
Where to self-launch your own kayak in Islamorada for free? There are a few parks with new ramps, walking trails & picnics areas within the Tavernier / Islamorada area to get out onto the water!


The Key Tree Cactus Preserve MM80.5 is next door to the Square Grouper Restaurant.

The Key Tree Cactus Nature Preserve offers a floating dock on the bay side which takes you out into a serene canal kayak ride out to a beautiful calm area.

There is plenty of free parking along with a bathroom, picnic area in shade, and walking paths at this kayak launch.

The Green Turtle Hammock Nature Preserve at MM81.2 also has a new kayak launch.

A new building is under construction which may be a viewing platform coming for 2025 over Florida Bay. More regarding Islamorada Park times.

There is a hidden small dirt launch on the bayside at MM81.9 at the end of Blackwood Drive. There is NO parking lot there however.

Although only residents are free to enter Founders Park at MM87 , guests are welcome! You may pay a one time fee and use the beach / playground.
As of March 2025, fees were
- Non-Resident Park Entry Fees (Credit Cards accepted).
Adults (18-64) $8.00 - Youth/Senior (3-17) $5.00



A new park with free kayak launch can be found at the same entrance of the Tavernier Marina & Habano's Restaurant - Children's Memorial Tree Garden MM90.6

You can find this tribute to the children whose lives have been cut short on US-1 Mile Marker 90.6 bayside beside the Tavernier Creek Marina. More regarding this serene stop can be found here at Childrens Memorial. There is parking for 4-5 cars... picnic pavilion with drinking fountain and hand wash station.
